HINDUISM CORNER: OBJECTIVE OF SATSANGH

Satsangh provides a peaceful place for prayers and fellowship with the divine. In such an atmosphere, devotees can experience inner peace and harmony. The search for peace is not an easy one especially when we live in a world beset with conflicts, problems, tragedies and insurmountable pains. Our saints and sages have strongly recommended congregational worship through the medium of satsang on a regular basis, to tame the turbulent mind.

Life’s purpose is not to simply satisfy our material wants and desires but to realize our divine potential and apply them in the pursuit of a meaningful life. A life which ultimately enables us to be creative and one that allows full expression of our inherent talent. Such a life can inspire us to bring others onboard and help in the service of others creating a better world of peace, love, understanding and selfless service.

May we pray during our satsangs to enjoy god’s consciousness, calmness and inner tranquility. Such virtues enhance life’s purpose and creates a spiritual fervor in our lives.

Why do Hindus perform Pooja?

Pooja means adoration or homage to god. Pooja is done for the purpose of self-purification and spiritual evolution. It helps to purify the heart and the soul of the devotee through the chanting of various mantras. Divine vibrations are generated that ennobles the emotions which brings us closer to god. Pooja also means thanks giving as Hindus celebrate important events in their life through the medium of pooja with friends and relatives throughout history.
